DARE SPORT
To Be Launched Autumn 2008
DARE Sport has been designed to help young people to develop the personal, learning and thinking skills essential to success in any sport, learning environment, everyday life and at work, using sport to facilitate this.
DARE Sport is a programme that lasts for 7 weeks and comprises the following workshops:
Ø The Six Keys To Success
Ø DARE Workshop- Part 1- Tobacco and decision-making
Ø DARE Workshop- Part 2 – Alcohol and decision-making
Ø Your Team and Communication Skills
Ø Self Esteem & Motivation
Ø Discipline & Responsibility
Ø Review
Each workshop is interactive and lasts for 60 minutes, apart from the first session, which is delivered by the DARE mentor, who focuses on the Six Keys to Success.
The British Athletes Commission has developed the Six Keys to Success. These are six key areas that an athlete should work on to help him or her to achieve the very best from them selves.
The Six Keys to Success are:

Ø Hunger to achieve
Ø People skills
Ø Sport or Life Knowledge
Ø Breaking Barriers
Ø Planning for success
DARE Sport aims to help young people to:
Ø Develop key life skills to stay safe, be healthy and to make a positive contribution within society.
Ø Set goals with success criteria for their development.
Ø Review and assess their performance.
Ø Raise their self-esteem and develop the skills to maximise their life opportunities.
Ø Become inspired and motivated, to achieve their goals.
Ø Be disciplined and take responsibility for their own actions.
Ø Develop support networks and communicate with the networks in a positive manner.
Ø Make informed decisions about health, social and moral dilemmas.
Ø Work within the Every Child Matters agenda.
Ø Work within the framework of personal, learning and thinking skills (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority)
